01 / How it works

A wheel that pushes back exactly like a real one

The MOZA R12 V2 is a PC direct drive wheel base. The motor sits straight on the steering shaft with no belts or gears, so the response is immediate and the small cues — front-end push, kerb grip, weight transfer mid-corner — reach your hands unfiltered. Its 12 Nm of peak torque is enough for GT cars and formula alike. The wheel, pedals and mounting hardware are chosen separately; the base is sold on its own. Inside is a slanted-pole servo motor with a carbon-fibre wrapped rotor: the wrap cuts eddy-current losses and helps move heat out, so the output does not sag at the end of a long stint. The 21-bit encoder resolves 2,097,152 points per revolution, a step of 0.00017°. USB polling runs at 1000 Hz, the rotation range is adjustable from 90 to 2700°, 110–220 V AC is converted to 36 V DC, and peak power is 216 W. The NexGen 4.0 algorithm and iRacing 360 Hz mode handle the detail in the force feedback. The housing is cast from aviation-grade aluminium and mounts through four bottom holes: into a cockpit frame, onto a wheel stand, or onto a desk with the optional clamp. The rear panel carries dedicated ports for pedals, a dash, a shifter, a handbrake and an emergency stop switch, so no USB hub is needed. Force, curves and profiles are tuned in MOZA Pit House on the PC, quick changes go through the mobile app, and firmware updates online. The officially stated platform is PC (Windows).

  1. 01

Direct drive instead of a belt

Budget wheels put a belt or gears between the motor and the shaft: they swallow the small oscillations and add slack. In the R12 V2 the motor rotor is the steering shaft, so nothing sits between the game's physics and your hands. The 12 Nm peak gives a heavy but manageable wheel: one hand on the straight, two hands to catch a slide.

  2. 02

A carbon-wrapped rotor keeps heat in check

The rotor is wrapped in carbon fibre: the wrap holds the magnets, cuts eddy-current losses and helps pull heat away from the motor. In practice the force on lap thirty feels like the force on lap one, and the base does not throttle itself mid-race. The aviation-grade aluminium housing works as one large heatsink.

  3. 03

    A 21-bit encoder and a 0.00017° step

The magnetic encoder resolves 2,097,152 positions per revolution — a step of 0.00017°. That precision is not there for the number: it is what separates a front-axle slide from a kerb vibration in your hands. A high-performance processor computes it in real time and USB polling runs at 1000 Hz.

  4. 04

    Desk, stand or rig

Mounting is four bottom holes, the standard pattern for rigs and stands: the base bolts into aluminium profile or a cockpit with no adapters. A desk clamp is available as an option, but at 12 Nm the desktop has to be genuinely stiff — a thin top will flex. If a full rig is the plan, start with profile.

  5. 05

Pit House: from first lap to your own curve

Preloaded per-game profiles are enough to start: plug in, pick one, drive. MOZA Pit House then opens the fine controls — strength, friction, damping, a road-feel equaliser and non-linear curves. Quick changes can be made from the phone app without leaving the session, and firmware updates online.

Compatibility

The officially stated platform is PC (Windows). The wheel is not included: MOZA rims with the brand quick release fit (ES, KS, CS V2P, KS Pro, CS Pro, RS V2, GS V2P, FSR2 and others). MOZA pedals, shifters, handbrake, dash and emergency stop switch plug into the base's own ports, so no USB hub is needed. Popular PC titles are supported — iRacing, Assetto Corsa and Competizione, the F1 series, DiRT Rally, Automobilista 2, Project CARS, Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator; some games need an initial setup in MOZA Pit House.

Questions

Do the wheel and pedals come with it?

No, the R12 V2 is the base only. The rim is chosen separately — any MOZA wheel with the brand quick release fits. MOZA pedals, shifter, handbrake and dash are bought separately too and plug into the base's own ports rather than a USB hub.

Will an ordinary desk handle 12 Nm?

On a desk it only works with a stiff top and the optional clamp; a thin or floating desktop will start rocking at medium strength. A wheel stand or an aluminium-profile rig is the safer home — the mount is the standard four bottom holes.

Does the base work with Xbox or PlayStation?

The official R12 V2 spec lists one platform: PC (Windows). The manufacturer does not declare console support for this base, so neither do we. If you need to play on a console, ask a GEEKSHOP manager for the right option before placing a preorder.

How does the preorder work and when does it arrive?

The item is brought in to order. After you place it a GEEKSHOP manager contacts you to confirm the configuration and the timing; delivery takes about a month from the moment the order is confirmed. The base is heavy (7.5 kg plus packaging), so regional shipping is quoted separately by the manager.
